#313 Fire Rescue Truck - 1966-68
|
In 1966 Structo introduced their new "Turbine" cab truck. The huge front glass and swept back styling
was an instant hit. It was about this time that San Francisco actually experimented with
turbine-powered fire trucks to help conquer its many steep grades. This toy fire-fighter is a fine tribute
to that effort.
Turbine front ends were almost intimidating.
Early Trucks had open grille-work.
The rear compartment was open and handy for
carrying extra hose or stuffed animals.
#331 Auto Transport - 1967
|
The Auto Transport debuted with the Turbine cab in 1966, but that year the cab was painted blue and
went by the number 418. In 1967 the cab was changed to red. Knowledgable collectors will notice the
old familiar auto transport trailer - another example of Structo using certain pieces for many years.
This truck may have originally come with three
cars but only two remain - both Ford products.
What's that hiding behind the #331 Auto
Transport? (A preview of coming attractions.)
The toy shown here is likely a 1967 or '68 model. When first introduced in 1966 it had a red boom and
was labeled #312. You gotta love that styling!
Compare the change in grille design to the #313
Fire Rescue Truck above - no open slots.
The bumper tow bar was identical to that used
on the Pow-r-r-r series tow trucks.
