Station Wagons - Large Scale
|
These larger scale Plymouth Station Wagons are
much rarer than the smaller promotional models
shown on page 1. They were offered at the
same time as the smaller models and were
available with the same "Spin-Torque Motors."
The larger size allows for greater detail and
realism. They had steering wheels, opening rear
doors,as well as front and fold-down rear seats.
The two examples shown represent different
years. The beige example is unpowered. The
maroon example is "mechanized."
No date or model number on the box makes it difficult to date this toy. 1952 or 1953 would be good
guesses. For some reason after a few years this color often turned darker around the wheel wells.
The box number (1253) indicates this toy might be a 1953 version. It has the "Spin-Torque Motor" and
the extra details to make it a highly desirable collector's item.
The two cogged wheels just forward of the rear axle operated the folding seats. One tilted the bottom
seat cushion forward. The other folded the back rest down. Very nice. Very fragile. Often busted.
