Versions #2 and #3
Nylint #2200 Michigan Shovel (actually a Crane)

This popular toy underwent numerous production
changes during its remarkable 11-year run
(1955 through 1965).

Based primarily on front-end designs there were
4 significant versions. The dates shown at right
are close approximations.

The last two versions carry the same date range.
Version #4 never appeared in Nylint sales
literature, yet it did appear in other advertising
as early as 1962. The last two versions were
marketed with the magnet as early as 1964.
Engine compartments changed as did the
handwheels and booms.
The stabilizers and design of the rear platform
changed over the years.
Version #1 - 1955-56
First Version Michigan Cranes were the most
detailed and rugged of all. This was the only
version to feature 10-wheels (duals in the back).
This distinctive front-end design characterizes
the First Version toys.
"Authorized by the Clark
Equipment  Company."
This decal does not
appear on other
versions.
The rear platform is
stiffened with an angular
brace. Note plated
stabilizer and
screw-down jack.
The wheel that controls
the boom height is
stamped metal and has a
ratchet lever.
The wheel that controls
the bucket height is
stamped metal and has a
ratchet lever.
The steering wheel is
similar to the other
control wheels.
Nice automotive-type
steering mechanism was
used on the first version.
The first version booms
were 4-sided on both the
upper and lower
sections.
The bucket remained
basically unchanged, but
some were painted blue.

Thanks to collector Richard Gresh for correcting my
error regarding production dates for Version #1 and #2.
The dates shown above should be accurate now.
