Texaco Toys - Page 4
An all plastic Texaco toy that caught on with the general public was the North Dakota. With superb
detailing, excellent decals, and colorful execution, it sold extremely well. Battery powered!
A scale model in every sense of the word. The
prow banner decal was exemplary.
Wilmington - now better known for credit card
headquarters. Note steerable rudder.
The elusive radar dish. Many North Dakota ships
soon lost their radar dishes to small hands.
Even draft markings are embossed on the bow.
This is the more common "red-hull" version.
The upper deck contains the motor controls. The
small wheels under the hull were not powered.
A complete toy with its original box, booklet, and
inserts is a Texaco collector's treassure.
Maroon Hull Version
The maroon hull version is more difficult to find. It
is unknown why the change in color was made.
They're all here in their original cellophane bag -
waiting to board ship
One of the finest booklets to accompany any toy! This publication provided an outstanding education
about Texaco Tankers, especially the real North Dakota. Also mentioned, however, is the Ohio. The
story of her WWII attack, abandonment, and eventual triumphant recovery makes for thrilling reading.
This reproduction toy is an excellent detailed model by FAMM of the real Texaco Tanker Ohio.
